BIOGRAPHY
Daniel and Emanuele Ricci They are two brothers and directors originally from Tuscany. In 2013, together with actor and director Eugenio Krilov, they founded Red Planet Production, a small independent production company. Since then, they have made several short films and documentaries, participating and receiving awards at Italian and international festivals such as the Imperia Video Festival (2014), the FiPiLi Horror Festival (2017), the Frostbite International Film Festival (2017), the Sci-fi Underground Filmfest (2017), and many others.
Between 2022 and early 2023 they wrote and produced Juggernaut, a dark fantasy short film shot entirely in Tuscany and Liguria. The Ricci brothers directed the film, while Eugenio Krilov played the lead role.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES
Juggernaut It was entirely conceived, written, and produced by Daniele Ricci, Emanuele Ricci, and Eugenio Krilov. In April 2022, we decided to embark on a challenging and ambitious journey. Our goal was to try our hand at a genre that was unusual for Italy: dark fantasy.
Despite the limited budget for such a large-scale project, we sought to maximize the magnificent scenery—both natural and man-made over the centuries—offered by Tuscany and Liguria. The location scouting phase was an adventure that led us to ancient crypts, damp caves, Etruscan quarries, and centuries-old trees. Our country, and Tuscany in particular, offers an enviable variety of settings: places like the Giugnano crypt, the Vie Cave of Sorano, the Witches' Oak, the Casentino forests, and many others. One of our goals was to showcase them internationally.
We like to define Juggernaut It's a journey, and as with any journey, you need close-knit companions. This led to the collaboration with a team that proved to be exceptional. We entrusted a portion of the film to numerous professionals from various fields, who helped design, sculpt, and shape that world.
The short film tells a story with very few characters facing great challenges: the odyssey of a man, driven by the blind desire to defy nature to recover what has been lost forever. Juggernaut It is a fusion of multiple genres: adventure, drama, fantasy and horror.
